Met Police Officer Accused of Attacking Woman in Birmingham Hotel Room

A Metropolitan Police officer has been accused of attacking a woman in a Birmingham hotel room and defrauding multiple partners to cover his gambling debts, Southwark Crown Court heard. Lewis Rollins, 28, allegedly displayed controlling and abusive behaviour towards three women while serving as a Pc in the Met's central west command unit.

Alleged Hotel Room Assault and Financial Exploitation

The court was told that Rollins attacked Dr Georgia Miller in a Birmingham hotel room in July 2022 after suspecting she had been messaging an ex-boyfriend. Prosecutor Rekha Kodikara described how Rollins became volatile, shouting and pulling his own hair before allegedly pushing Dr Miller off the bed and slamming her against a wall. Despite this incident and another where he reportedly pushed her into the road, breaking her necklace, Dr Miller remained in the relationship to protect his police career.

Rollins allegedly convinced Dr Miller to help him secure a loan from the Metropolitan Police while simultaneously dating another woman, Alisha Steeds. The prosecutor stated that Rollins took £1,500 from Ms Steeds to cover his rent after unsuccessfully trying to convince her to secure a £4,000 loan on his behalf. Dr Miller later discovered Ms Steeds while pursuing Rollins for repayment and was allegedly duped into transferring £750 to Rollins' own account instead of Ms Steeds'.

Gambling Habit and Multiple Relationships

The court heard that Rollins' financial problems stemmed largely from a gambling habit. In text messages shown to jurors, Rollins told one woman: "There's no-one in the police like me – I'm lazy, not hard-working, all I care about is drinking and gambling." On the same day he confessed to Dr Miller about trouble paying rent, he had reportedly gambled away £1,000.

Rollins allegedly dated two women simultaneously before beginning a relationship with a third, trainee solicitor Emily Busby, whom he met on a dating app in April 2023. Ms Busby agreed to help him establish a football team to raise awareness about gambling issues, buying him football boots and designing promotional materials. She also provided £800 for his accommodation deposit after he gambled away money from his parents and allowed him to use her car, which allegedly resulted in parking fines and speeding tickets for her.

Loan Fraud and Relationship Dynamics

In December 2023, Ms Busby secured a £4,000 loan for Rollins, handing over £2,500 to him while using the remainder to settle her own debts. The prosecutor noted that Rollins "thought he was entitled to the loan she took out – he saw it as his money." Ms Busby reported him to police after he began dating another woman, attempted to sever contact, and allegedly pushed her over during a confrontation.

The court heard that Rollins went on various trips with the women, including to Spain with Dr Miller and to Seville and Germany with Ms Busby, which were "largely paid for by her." Ms Kodikara commented that Rollins "managed to get a great deal from these relationships."

Charges and Trial Proceedings

Lewis Rollins, of Fareham in Hampshire, denies two charges of controlling or coercive behaviour, one charge of damaging property, and three counts of fraud. The trial continues at Southwark Crown Court as prosecutors present evidence about his alleged pattern of financial exploitation and abusive behaviour across multiple relationships while serving as a police officer.
