Three people have been arrested in Worksop after a motorcyclist wearing Crocs caught the attention of police officers, leading to the discovery of stolen motorcycles and a linked vehicle.
Unusual Footwear Sparks Police Action
On Sunday, July 12, at around 6:35 PM, officers from Nottinghamshire Police's Roads Policing Unit noticed a motorcyclist riding a Suzuki SV while wearing Crocs, an unusual choice of footwear for riding. Their suspicions were confirmed when they learned the bike had been reported stolen.
The officers initially lost sight of the Suzuki and its rider, but they soon spotted the bike again nearby, along with a second stolen motorcycle, a Honda FES, which had been reported stolen from separate addresses in Worksop and Leeds respectively.
Convoy Leads to Arrests
Police lost sight of the bikes again but received intelligence that they were being ridden in convoy behind a blue Ford Fiesta. Officers tracked down a car matching that description and pulled it over in Blyth Road, Worksop.
Inside the vehicle were multiple occupants, including a passenger wearing a pair of Crocs similar to those seen on the motorcyclist earlier. A motorcycle helmet was also found in the car.
Three Suspects in Custody
A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, handling stolen goods, and conspiracy to steal a motor vehicle. A 49-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy were also arrested. The man and the teenager face additional charges of driving without a license or insurance.
Police Praise Officer Awareness
Detective Inspector Jamie Moore of Nottinghamshire Police commended the officers involved, stating: "These three arrests came about thanks to the fantastic awareness of and the communication between our Roads Policing Unit officers. When the sighting of a motorcyclist wearing inappropriate footwear heightened their suspicions, officers investigated further and realised two bikes they'd seen had been reported stolen."
DI Moore added: "Despite losing sight of the bikes on more than one occasion, the team kept going and managed to locate a car they believed to be linked to the motorbikes and which contained three suspects. As I say, this was a great piece of police work that emphasised the importance of the patrols our teams conduct."
