A Midlands father who stabbed his own son three times during a heated argument has been sentenced to 15 years in prison. Anthony Kimberley, 59, attacked his 39-year-old son at a property in Garibaldi Road, Forest Town, Nottinghamshire, on the evening of August 2 last year.
The Incident
The argument began inside the house before spilling out into the garden, where Kimberley armed himself with a knife and stabbed his son three times. The victim suffered wounds to his chest and arm, with one blow to the chest puncturing the membrane around his heart. He was later found collapsed in the street and required treatment in intensive care.
Court Proceedings
Kimberley was arrested at the scene and subsequently charged. At Nottingham Crown Court, a jury cleared him of attempted murder but convicted him of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. On Friday, April 17, he was jailed for 15 years and handed a restraining order forbidding any contact with his son.
Police Statement
Detective Constable Jemma Stuman, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "The victim in this case could easily have died as a result of this very violent assault. Kimberley chose to arm himself with a weapon in the moments before this incident and should count himself lucky that his actions did not prove fatal. As he begins a very lengthy prison sentence, I hope this incident serves as a warning to others - that if you pick up a knife in anger, the consequences can and will be extremely serious."
