Hennessey's Bar in Digbeth has issued a warning to football fans after customers were scammed by a third-party website selling tickets for World Cup watch parties. The pub, previously voted 'the best boozer in Birmingham', alerted customers via social media after several people paid for access to events that were not authorised.
How the Scam Unfolded
Staff at Hennessey's realised something was wrong when visitors to a watch party for a Brazil game mentioned they had paid a third-party website to join the event. The pub confirmed that these tickets were not legitimate and that customers had been misled.
In a statement on social media, Hennessey's said: "Customers joining us recently for the Brazil game told us that they had paid a 3rd-party website to join a watch party here at Hennessey's. Customers appear to have been scammed, and we just want to warn all customers about this."
Official Events Only Through Pub's Channels
The bar emphasised that it does not sell or authorise ticket sales through any third-party platforms. "We would like to be absolutely clear that Hennessey's Bar is not selling or authorising these ticket sales. Any official World Cup events hosted by Hennessey's Bar will always be organised by us and advertised exclusively through our social media and website," the statement added.
Hennessey's, located at 30-31 Allison Street, Birmingham B5 5TJ, has urged fans to only purchase tickets through its official channels to avoid being scammed. The pub has not disclosed the number of customers affected, but the warning serves as a reminder for fans to verify event organisers before making payments.
