Driver dies after Worcestershire crash with tree

Police have confirmed the death of a motorist following a serious single-vehicle collision in Worcestershire last week.

Tragic Outcome Following Morning Collision

The incident occurred on Friday, January 2, shortly before 9.50am on Goosehill Lane, near the village of Hanbury. According to West Mercia Police, a blue Volvo left the road and collided with a tree.

The driver, a man in his 50s, sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash. Emergency services, including the Midlands Air Ambulance, attended the scene. The man was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for urgent treatment.

Sadly, in an update issued on Saturday, January 3, police confirmed that the driver had died from his injuries. The force stated: "The driver of the car has since died. Our thoughts remain with his family."

Police Appeal for Key Witnesses

Officers are continuing their investigation to establish the full circumstances of the collision. They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the blue Volvo in the area around the time of the incident.

PC Owen Steer, who is leading the enquiry, provided further detail on the vehicle's route. He said: “We are keen to establish exactly when and how the collision occurred, and we would urge anyone who may have seen the car, which we believe was travelling towards Droitwich along Goosehill from the general direction of Himbleton to please get in touch.”

The road was closed for several hours to allow for emergency response and initial investigation work but has since reopened.

How to Assist the Investigation

West Mercia Police have made a direct appeal to the public for information. Anyone with dashcam footage, or who witnessed the collision or the vehicle prior to it, is urged to contact the investigating officer.
