Edgbaston Named UK's Burglary Hotspot with 57.7 Claims per 1,000
Edgbaston: UK's Worst Burglary Hotspot Revealed

New data has identified the Birmingham postcode of B15, covering much of Edgbaston, as the UK's number one hotspot for burglaries.

The UK's Break-In Capital

According to an analysis by MoneySuperMarket, the area has a staggering rate of 57.7 home insurance claims for every 1,000 quotes over the past four years. This places it firmly at the top of a national list of high-risk areas.

The data shows that Solihull's B94 postcode follows in second place with 39.2 claims per 1,000, while the TW12 district in Greater London ranks third with 38.1.

Street-Level Breakdown of Crime

Detailed police.uk data has now exposed the exact streets targeted within this burglary hotspot. In the last 12 months, from October 2024 to September 2025, a total of 301 burglaries were reported in Edgbaston.

The statistics for September 2025, the most recent month available, show that Brook Road was the only street to suffer more than one break-in during that period. The police figures list numerous other streets affected, painting a clear picture of the area's crime challenge.

The Human Cost: A £12,000 Gold Heist

The stark statistics are embodied by the traumatic experience of one local couple. Earlier this year, BirminghamLive reported that Mukul Rathore, 33, and his wife Anik Gupta, 31, were targeted in a devastating raid.

While the couple were in India following the death of Mr Rathore's father, criminals broke into their Edgbaston flat. The burglars prised open a window and ransacked the property, making off with a haul of sentimental Asian gold jewellery valued at around £12,000.

Mr Rathore revealed that their communal garages had also been targeted by criminals on multiple occasions, suggesting a pattern of offending in the area.

The new data and personal stories highlight the significant impact of burglary on residents in the UK's most affected postcode.
