Fire Engulfs Three Shops on Ladypool Road
A takeaway and two other shops were destroyed by a fire that broke out in the early hours of Tuesday, July 14, on Ladypool Road in Birmingham. Around 16 firefighters responded to the incident, which began at approximately 2.45am and affected Chickaros and its neighboring premises.
The fire is believed to have started in the front outdoor seating area of one of the shops before spreading to the other units. Four fire engines and a hydraulic aerial platform were dispatched from Highgate, Billesley, Bournbrook, and Hay Mills fire stations.
Residents Evacuated Safely
Approximately 14 residents living in the flats above the shops had evacuated before firefighters arrived. No casualties or injuries were reported. West Midlands Police cordoned off Ladypool Road for several hours while crews worked to extinguish the blaze.
West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) confirmed that firefighters used hose reels to bring the fire under control by around 3.45am. They then damped down and stripped away affected areas to ensure the fire had not spread to neighboring properties.
Thorough Checks Conducted
WMFS stated: "Shortly before 2.45am on Tuesday 14 July, we responded to Ladypool Road, Birmingham. Four fire engines and a hydraulic aerial platform attended, crewed by firefighters from Highgate, Billesley, Bournbrook and Hay Mills fire stations. This was a fire affecting a row of three ground-floor shops, which started in the frontage of an outdoor seating area. Firefighters used hose reels to extinguish the fire, which was confirmed to be out at around 3.45am. We then damped down and stripped away any areas affected by the fire. Fourteen people left their flats above the shops prior to our arrival. There were no casualties or injuries. Firefighters carried out thorough checks of neighbouring shops and the flats above the affected area, confirming the fire had not spread. West Midlands Police closed Ladypool Road while we worked at the scene, but the road reopened as we began to scale down our response."
Road Reopened After Operation
The road was reopened once the firefighting operation scaled down. The cause of the fire is under investigation by West Midlands Police and WMFS. No further details have been released at this time.
