The loss of four members of the same family, including an 11-month-old baby, in a road collision has been called a 'devastating tragedy' by the community. The crash occurred on the A38 in Derby at around 23:00 BST on Saturday, involving a red Hyundai that collided with trees.
Victims Identified
Abubacarr Camara, 36, Isa Jaiteh, 30, their infant daughter Aisha Camara, and an 18-year-old woman believed to be a cousin, all lost their lives. The three adults were pronounced dead at the scene, while the baby was rushed to hospital but died shortly after arrival, according to Derbyshire Police.
The family were part of Leeds's Gambian diaspora and were returning home northwards after attending an event for the Sarahule community in Birmingham earlier that day. The driver, a 33-year-old man, sustained serious injuries. He was initially arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving but has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

Tributes have poured in for the family, with the Gambia Welfare Society Leeds describing the loss as 'heartbreaking'. In a statement, the society said: 'We urge everyone to give their families strength and patience during this heartbreaking time.' Abubacarr, also known as Buba, was hailed as a 'dedicated servant' to his local community who guided youngsters through football. 'He will be remembered for his kindness, humility, and selfless service,' the society added.
A fellow member of the Gambian community described Abubacarr as a 'respected youth leader' whose life was defined by faith, honesty, humility and selfless service. 'He dedicated himself to uplifting young people, strengthening community ties and promoting unity among all,' they added.
Police Appeal
A Derbyshire Police spokesperson said: 'The relatives of those involved are aware and are receiving support from specialist officers. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.' Officers are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward. The crash has also prompted renewed calls for road safety improvements on the A38, a major route that has seen several serious incidents in recent years.
