Four Teenagers Arrested Following City Centre Brawl
West Midlands Police have arrested four teenagers on suspicion of violent disorder after a violent brawl erupted in Birmingham city centre on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred in Victoria Square at approximately 3:50 PM on March 21, 2026, following a planned demonstration related to conflict in Iran.
Violent Scenes Captured on Video
Video footage from the scene shows ugly confrontations unfolding in front of families and passers-by. One individual, dressed in a hood and mask, appeared to confront a group of men while holding a knife before being chased and tripping over. The figure was then seen surrounded on the ground as people kicked him.
Onlookers, including a man with a pushchair and children, watched from the background. Two people dressed in high-visibility clothing, who appeared to be security personnel, were also present during the altercation.
Police Investigation and Weapon Recovery
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police confirmed that no one is known to have been injured in the melee. Officers recovered a zombie knife from the area, which is currently being analysed. However, it is understood that the weapon was not used during the incident, although threats were made.
The four arrested boys, aged between 14 and 16, remain in custody for questioning. Police are continuing to review footage and liaise with security staff who were present after the planned demonstration had finished in the area a short time earlier.
Ongoing Investigation and Public Appeal
Investigators are working to establish the full circumstances of the incident and identify all individuals involved. West Midlands Police have issued a public appeal for information, urging anyone with details that could assist the investigation to contact them via Live Chat or call 101, quoting reference 20/186925/26.
The police spokesperson emphasized: "We will not tolerate violence in Birmingham city centre or the wider region. We are committed to ensuring the West Midlands is a safe place for everyone to live, work and visit."
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about public safety in busy urban areas, particularly following organized events. Authorities are focused on maintaining order and preventing similar outbreaks of violence in the future.
