Shooting Incident Prompts Police Response
West Midlands Police have recovered a firearm near a skatepark in Birmingham after a teenager was shot on Wednesday evening. The victim, aged 18, was found with a gunshot wound to the leg on Kingstanding Road at around 6pm. He was taken to hospital for treatment, and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Weapon Found Adjacent to Skatepark
Officers responding to the scene discovered a handgun discarded close to the skatepark. The area was cordoned off for forensic examination. Detective Inspector Jim Colclough said: “This was a shocking incident that has understandably caused concern in the local community. We are working tirelessly to establish the full circumstances and identify those responsible.”
Community Impact and Police Appeal
Residents reported hearing multiple gunshots, prompting a large police presence. Kingstanding Road was closed for several hours while investigations took place. Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam or mobile phone footage to come forward. DI Colclough added: “We believe there were a number of people in the area at the time, and we urge anyone who saw anything suspicious to contact us.”
Ongoing Investigation
No arrests have been made yet. The recovered firearm will undergo ballistic testing to determine if it has been used in other crimes.
