Mohammed Jangheer, a 45-year-old drug dealer from Birmingham, was found guilty at Birmingham Crown Court of possession with intent to supply crack cocaine and heroin. The conviction follows a police chase on Villa Road in Handsworth on August 5 last year, during which Jangheer threw a bag containing Class A drugs over a wall.
Police chase and recovery of drugs
West Midlands Police officers initially spotted Jangheer acting suspiciously on Villa Road. When they approached, he refused to stop and a foot chase ensued. During the pursuit, Jangheer threw a bag over a nearby wall in an attempt to conceal the evidence. Officers quickly recovered the bag and discovered it contained a large quantity of drugs, later confirmed to be crack cocaine and heroin.
In total, more than 400 individual wraps of drugs were seized. A mobile phone was also recovered, which showed clear links to drug dealing activity.
Trial and conviction
Jangheer, of Village Road, was charged with two counts of possession with intent to supply. He denied both offences, leading to a trial at Birmingham Crown Court. Following a thorough examination of the evidence, a jury found him guilty on both charges on Monday, July 20.
The court heard that the drugs had a significant street value and were likely destined for distribution within the local community.
Remanded in custody
After the verdict, the judge remanded Jangheer into custody. He is scheduled to be sentenced in September. The sentencing will take into account the scale of the operation and the impact on the community.
