Joshua Griffiths, a 21-year-old wanted hit-and-run driver, shouted 'tell everyone I love them' as he was arrested following a police chase in Wolverhampton. He has now pleaded guilty to five charges, including dangerous driving and possession of a bladed article.
Police chase and arrest
On July 9, traffic officers spotted Griffiths driving at dangerous speeds in Wolverhampton. He failed to stop after being recognized as wanted for a hit-and-run incident from the previous December. During the pursuit, Griffiths rammed two police cars, badly damaging one. At one point, he mounted the pavement near homes and careered across grassland. His car was later found abandoned in Rindleford Avenue, but Griffiths was seen entering an address on the same road, where he was arrested.
As he was put in the back of a police car, Griffiths shouted to a friend, 'tell everyone I love them'. The 21-year-old was charged with two counts of dangerous driving, two counts of driving without a license or insurance, and possession of a bladed article in a public place.
Court appearance and sentencing
On Monday, July 13, Griffiths pleaded guilty at Wolverhampton Crown Court and was remanded for sentencing next month. Pc Joe Beddoe, from the Road Crime Team, said: “Griffiths has repeatedly put the lives of other road users and members of the community at risk by driving at dangerous speeds through residential areas. We are committed to keeping all road users safe and taking dangerous drivers off our roads.”
