Iranian National Sentenced to Ten Years for Rape of Teenager in Stratford-upon-Avon
A 22-year-old Iranian national, Mohammad Tawfiqi, has been handed a ten-year prison sentence after being found guilty of raping a 17-year-old girl in Stratford-upon-Avon. The attack occurred in 2024 when the victim was using the bathroom at a friend's house during a gathering.
Details of the Appalling Attack
Tawfiqi forced his way into the bathroom, locked the door, and assaulted the teenager. Following the incident, he attempted to evade capture by providing a fake name, Papino, to others at the house. Warwickshire Police issued an appeal to trace him, and a member of the public came forward to identify Tawfiqi, who was living in the town at the time.
He was subsequently arrested at his place of work. During police interviews, Tawfiqi offered a pre-prepared statement and denied any wrongdoing, showing no remorse for his actions.
Court Conviction and Sentencing
With strong support from the victim, a robust case was built against Tawfiqi. On Thursday, March 19, at Warwick Crown Court, he was convicted of rape and sentenced to ten years in prison on the same day.
Detective Constable Ella Stewart commented on the case, stating, "The victim has shown incredible bravery throughout this process and I want to publicly thank her for all she has done. Tawfiqi has shown no remorse for his appalling attack and, though no sentence will take away what happened, we are glad he is off the streets."
This case highlights the importance of community vigilance and the critical role of victim support in securing justice for serious crimes.
