Irish Teen Dies Swimming on Turkey Family Holiday

A devastating tragedy has struck a Dublin family as 17-year-old Josh Fleming lost his life while swimming during a family holiday in Turkey. The teenager, from Finglas, encountered difficulties in the water in Antalya on Sunday, June 14, and sadly passed away.

Fundraiser Launched for Repatriation

In the wake of this heartbreaking loss, a fundraising campaign has been initiated to assist Josh's family with the financial burden of repatriating his body and arranging his funeral, as reported by Dublin Live. Josh was a student at Beneavin De La Salle College in Finglas.

His great-aunt, Anne Marie Portakal, who set up the fundraiser, expressed the profound grief felt by the community: "His sudden passing has left his family, friends, classmates, and wider community devastated."

Appeal for Support

Anne Marie emphasized the unimaginable pain of losing a child, especially abroad: "No family should ever have to face the unimaginable pain of losing a child, especially in such tragic and unexpected circumstances while away from home." She added that the GoFundMe page aims to ease the burden and allow the family to focus on grieving.

"Any contribution, no matter how small, will be deeply appreciated. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this page to help us reach others who may wish to support the family. Josh touched the lives of many people in his short 17 years, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him," she said.

Donations can be made via the online fundraiser to support the Fleming family during this difficult time.
