Police Recover Lock Knife After Chase
West Midlands Police arrested a man in Birmingham after he allegedly discarded a lock knife during a foot chase. The incident occurred on Wednesday, 15 March, when officers on patrol in the Bordesley Green area spotted a man acting suspiciously.
According to a police spokesperson, the suspect attempted to flee on foot when officers approached. During the pursuit, the man threw a lock knife into a garden. Officers recovered the weapon and detained the suspect a short distance away.
Suspect in Custody
The 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article. He remains in custody for questioning. The knife has been seized and will be forensically examined.
West Midlands Police said the arrest was part of ongoing efforts to tackle knife crime in the city. Inspector Paul Minor, from the force's Birmingham East neighbourhood team, said: "This was a great piece of proactive policing. Our officers acted quickly to apprehend a suspect and recover a dangerous weapon from the streets."
Community Impact
Local residents expressed relief at the swift police action. One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "It's good to see the police taking knives off the streets. We need more of this to keep our community safe."
The arrest comes as West Midlands Police continues its Operation Sceptre, a national campaign targeting knife crime. In the West Midlands, knife crime offences have decreased by 8% in the past year, according to official figures. However, police remain vigilant and encourage the public to report suspicious activity.
