Four men have been arrested and a cache of weapons recovered following a dramatic police chase through Birmingham in the early hours of this morning.
Masked Robbery at Five Ways Shop
The incident stems from a violent robbery that took place on Tuesday, December 23. According to West Midlands Police, a gang of masked men, armed with machetes, stormed a shop in the Five Ways area of Edgbaston.
The assailants stole a quantity of cigarettes, vapes, and cash before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, no one was injured during the terrifying ordeal.
Swift Police Action and Chase
Officers launched an immediate investigation, trawling through CCTV footage which helped them identify a vehicle suspected of being used in the robbery.
In the early hours of today, Friday, December 27, the same car was spotted in the Saltley area of the city. Armed officers were swiftly deployed to intercept it.
The vehicle initially failed to stop for police. Its occupants then decamped and ran from officers, prompting a search of the local area. The police helicopter was deployed to assist.
Arrests and Weapons Seized
The search was quickly successful. Four men, aged between 21 and 26, were found hiding in nearby gardens and detained by officers.
A subsequent search of the abandoned car led to the discovery of two machetes and a knife, which were seized by police. The men were arrested on suspicion of robbery and weapons offences and remain in police custody for questioning.
West Midlands Police are continuing their enquiries and have urged anyone with information to come forward. Witnesses or those with relevant details should call 101, quoting crime reference number 20/485966/25.
