School Lockdown Triggered by Suspicious Behaviour
A primary school in Solihull was forced into a lockdown this week after reports of a man acting suspiciously outside the premises. The incident occurred at Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Primary School on Stratford Road in Shirley on Tuesday, November 11.
West Midlands Police officers were dispatched to the scene at around 3pm following concerns raised about the individual's behaviour. According to witness accounts, the man was allegedly "chanting about demons and children" near the school grounds.
Police Investigation Uncovers Further Incidents
The police investigation has since revealed that the suspect is also being questioned in connection with other incidents in the local area. A 30-year-old man has been arrested and is currently in police custody.
He is being detained not only for the suspicious activity outside the school but also for an alleged assault at Turtle Bay in Solihull. This separate incident took place on Wednesday, November 12, where a member of staff was reportedly attacked.
Suspect in Custody as Enquiries Continue
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police confirmed the arrest, stating: "A man has been arrested after a staff member was assaulted in Turtle Bay, Solihull yesterday. The 30-year-old is also being questioned following reports a man was acting suspiciously outside a school in Shirley and a number of businesses on the Stratford Road earlier this week."
The school authorities have clarified that while an intruder was spotted in a nearby church car park, he did not manage to gain access to the school buildings. The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to be questioned formally in due course.
