Police in Birmingham have arrested two men following an early morning supermarket burglary, with one suspect discovered hiding inside a refrigerator.
Break-in at Sutton Road store
West Midlands Police were called to reports of a break-in at the Lidl supermarket on Sutton Road in Erdington in the early hours of Thursday, 2 January 2026. Officers responded swiftly to the alarm.
Arrests made inside and outside
Upon arrival, police arrested a 45-year-old man outside the premises. He was detained on suspicion of burglary and possession of class A drugs.
During a search of the store, officers made a more unusual discovery. A second man, aged 41, was found concealed inside one of the supermarket's refrigerators. He was also arrested on suspicion of burglary.
Suspects remain in custody
A police spokesperson confirmed that both men remain in custody for questioning. Inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
