Man Banned from Oswestry Pubs and Clubs Until 2028

Police in Shropshire have issued a stark warning to potential offenders after securing a significant court order against a persistent individual. Iran Lane, a 30-year-old resident of Shrewsbury, has been prohibited from entering any public house or licensed nightclub within the town of Oswestry until the year 2028.

Court Imposes Stringent New Conditions

The stringent ban was imposed at Telford Magistrates Court on Friday, January 23, 2026. Lane pleaded guilty to two breaches of his existing Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), leading to both a custodial sentence and the extension of his restrictions.

Background of the Criminal Behaviour Order

Lane was originally handed a three-year CBO in June 2025 following a conviction for breaking into a BP Garage to steal vapes. That initial order specifically banned him from:

  • Entering the petrol station and its forecourt
  • Being drunk in a public place within Oswestry

However, on January 15, 2026, Lane was found to have breached these conditions, leading to his arrest and subsequent charges.

Sentencing and Police Statement

The court sentenced Lane to 12 weeks in jail. Crucially, it also added a powerful new condition to his CBO, explicitly banning him from all pubs and licensed nightclubs in Oswestry until 2028. The overall CBO will remain in force until June 2028.

Sergeant Stuart Leclere, from Oswestry’s Safer Neighbourhood Team, emphasised the broader message of the ruling. "I hope this sends a message to anyone intent on causing disorder or committing crime in Oswestry that we remain committed to ensuring that those who are responsible are dealt with," he stated.

Sergeant Leclere continued, "I am glad that the court has issued Lane with a 12-week custodial sentence, as well as extending his CBO conditions, which I hope will curb his behaviour, and help protect the people in the town."

Understanding Criminal Behaviour Orders

A Criminal Behaviour Order is a civil order designed specifically to tackle the most serious and persistent individuals who engage in anti-social behaviour. The powers to issue a CBO are contained within the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.

These orders are applied where an individual's behaviour has been found to cause alarm, distress, or harassment to members of the public. They are a key tool for police and local authorities in maintaining community safety and order.
