A man in his 50s is fighting for his life after a violent attack inside a fish and chip shop in Stockbridge Village, Merseyside, left him covered in blood with a serious head wound. The shocking incident occurred at The Village Chippy off Leach Croft on Friday, April 17, around 7:30 PM.

Details of the Violent Assault

The victim was reportedly waiting for his food order when he was struck, causing severe injuries. Despite the attack, he managed to leave the premises with his food before later seeking medical attention at a hospital. North West Ambulance Service alerted Merseyside Police after the victim presented with the critical head injury, and he remains in hospital in a critical condition.

Shop manager Xiau Chen described hearing a loud "bang" from the back of the shop before rushing to the front, where he found the victim with blood all over his face. Mr. Chen, along with his wife and a regular customer, provided immediate assistance to the injured man while the attacker fled the scene.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Merseyside Police have confirmed that a 25-year-old man from Stockbridge Village has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent. Detective Inspector Steven O’Neill stated, "This was a shocking assault that has left a man in hospital in a critical condition. An investigation is ongoing to find the person responsible, and we are appealing for anyone with information to come forward."

The chip shop was forced to close for two days over the weekend as police conducted investigative work at the scene. Authorities are urgently appealing to witnesses who were inside the chippy at the time of the incident, emphasizing the importance of their cooperation in the ongoing investigation.

Mr. Chen expressed his shock and confusion over the attack, telling the Liverpool Echo, "It happened so fast. No one knows what was said for this to happen. We really want to know why it happened. He added that after cleaning up the victim, the man took his bag of food and left, later seen speaking to people outside.
