A man has died after a stolen BMW crashed into a tree in Smethwick. The driver, in his 40s, was fatally injured on Oldbury Road near the junction with Spon Lane South shortly before 12:45 a.m. on Thursday, June 4.
Emergency services attended the scene, but the man was pronounced dead a short time later. His family has been informed and is receiving support.
Stolen Vehicle
West Midlands Police confirmed that the BMW is believed to have been stolen from an address in Oldbury the previous night. An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the collision.

Detectives are reviewing CCTV footage and appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward. A spokesperson said: We are investigating after a man died after a car hit a tree in Smethwick early today. Officers were called to Oldbury Road, at the junction with Spon Lane South, at just before 12:45 a.m. and found the driver in his 40s being treated by ambulance colleagues.
Sadly, despite all efforts, he was pronounced dead a short time later. His family have been informed and are being supported at this difficult time. Investigators understand the vehicle, a BMW, had been stolen last night from an address in Oldbury.
Enquiries are underway to establish the exact circumstances of the collision with CCTV being retrieved and reviewed.
