Stolen Construction Vehicle Sparks Police Pursuit

A man is set to appear in court following a dramatic incident involving a stolen 24-tonne earthmover that was driven through city streets. The massive construction machine was taken from an address in Staffordshire on Saturday, November 8.

Police Chase Across County Lines

Authorities were alerted to the situation just before 5.40pm and immediately attempted to intercept the vehicle. The earthmover crossed into Wolverhampton before eventually coming to a stop on New Road, Willenhall at 8.15pm, nearly three hours after the initial police response.

Multiple Charges Filed Against Sandwell Man

Darren Coffey, 41, from Sandwell, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with numerous offences including:

  • Dangerous driving
  • Failing to stop for police
  • Driving without a licence or insurance
  • Drink driving
  • Aggravated vehicle taking
  • Threat to damage or destroy property
  • Two counts of criminal damage to property under £5,000
  • Vehicle damage under £5,000

Coffey has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court today (Monday, November 10). The case has drawn significant attention due to the unusual nature of the vehicle involved and the potential danger posed by a 24-tonne earthmover being driven recklessly through urban areas.
