Stoke-on-Trent Man Sentenced to 18 Months for Domestic Abuse Campaign
A man from Stoke-on-Trent has been imprisoned after subjecting his partner to a sustained campaign of emotional and physical abuse, which included slapping, spitting, and threatening behavior.
Details of the Abuse and Court Proceedings
Keiron Yates, aged 28 and residing in Werrington, Stoke-on-Trent, pleaded guilty to two counts of engaging in controlling and coercive behavior. The abuse involved multiple incidents where Yates slapped his partner, spat at her, and deliberately damaged her personal property, such as her mobile phone and clothing.
In one particularly alarming episode, Yates drove the woman's car dangerously in an attempt to intimidate and frighten her. Additionally, he sent her a series of threatening messages, further exacerbating the emotional distress.
The victim demonstrated remarkable bravery by coming forward to report the abuse to Staffordshire Police. This allowed officers to gather sufficient evidence to build a strong case against Yates.
Sentencing and Police Response
Last Friday, March 13, Yates was sentenced to one-and-a-half years in prison at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court. PC Ben Germanek of Staffordshire Police commended the survivor's courage, stating, "Yates was prolific in his abuse of the survivor, who has shown immense courage in coming forward and seeking support."
He added, "We’re determined to do everything possible to safeguard victims of domestic abuse and to act robustly against offenders in Staffordshire." The police force has reiterated its commitment to supporting survivors and encouraged others in similar situations to reach out for help.
