Violent Attack in City Park Leads to Imprisonment

A 25-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent has been sent to prison after a violent incident in a local park where he stabbed two people with a pair of scissors. The attack occurred in Hanley Park in May this year after an argument broke out between the individuals involved.

Details of the Assault

Abdulrahin Abbker approached his victims in the park before pulling the scissors from his bag. He proceeded to stab one man in the stomach and a second man in the leg. Emergency services were called, and both victims were rushed to hospital for treatment.

Fortunately, their injuries were not deemed to be life-threatening or life-changing, and both men went on to make full recoveries from the attack. Officers from Staffordshire Police attended the scene promptly after a 999 call was received and detained Abbker.

Court Proceedings and Sentencing

At Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Wednesday, November 5, Abbker pleaded guilty to two counts of wounding and one count of possessing a bladed article in a public place. He was subsequently sentenced to two years imprisonment for his actions.

Following the sentencing, DC Isobel Holliday commented on the case, stating that Abbker could have easily caused far more serious harm. She emphasised that those who commit high-harm offences in the community will be relentlessly pursued by officers seeking the toughest possible punishment in court.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police confirmed that after questioning, they secured the charges against Abbker and brought him before the courts, resulting in his conviction.
