Man Fatally Shot Near Euston Station, Police Hunt Bike-Riding Suspect

A 26-year-old man has been shot dead while sitting in a car near Euston train station in central London. The incident occurred on Chalton Street in Camden, prompting a major police investigation and a hunt for a suspect captured on CCTV arriving and leaving the scene on a bicycle.

Details of the Shooting Incident

Police were called to reports of gunshots near Euston station at approximately 11pm on Saturday, March 28. Upon arrival, officers found Nahom Medhanie, aged 26, who could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was sitting in a white Nissan Juke when several shots were fired at him.

The Metropolitan Police have released CCTV footage showing a suspect arriving and departing the area on a bike. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.

Tributes from the Victim's Family

In a heartfelt tribute, Mr. Medhanie's family described him as a beloved son and brother. They stated, "Nahom was more than a son and a brother to us, and since his passing it has been the hardest days of our lives. He was funny, honest and would just light up the room with his presence, and that's what we loved most about him."

The family is currently receiving support from specialist police officers during this difficult time.

Community Reaction and Safety Concerns

Local residents and workers have expressed shock and concern over the shooting. A man named Shamim, who works on Chalton Street, reported that a colleague heard loud bangs during the incident. Shamim said, "My colleague told me there was a big bang. A loud bang a few times."

He added that patrons from the nearby Cock Tavern pub came out to investigate the noise. Shamim also highlighted ongoing safety issues in the area, noting, "Chalton Street has always had a bad record about this… a lot of violence. A lot of residents don't feel safe any more. There are big numbers of residents in this area, we need to have more police."

Police Appeal for Information

Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke addressed the community's concerns, stating, "We are aware of the concern that this will cause for the local community, and want to reassure them that we are working hard to identify the attacker and bring them to justice. If anyone has any information that could help us, it is extremely important that they contact the police."
