Midland robber headbutts officer, jailed for 38 months

Gary Crane, a 48-year-old man from the Midlands, has been sentenced to 38 months in prison after admitting to robbing a shop and assaulting a police officer. The incident occurred in April when Crane entered a shop on Clifton Road in Rugby, pushed the shopkeeper over, and stole alcohol.

Details of the robbery

Crane fled the scene but was quickly located by police in a nearby street, still in possession of the stolen alcohol. During the arrest, as officers were placing him in the back of a van, Crane headbutted one of the officers. Despite the assault, the officer was uninjured.

Legal proceedings and sentence

Further investigations, including CCTV footage, confirmed Crane's assault on the shop worker. He was charged with robbery and assaulting a constable in the execution of their duty. Having admitted both offences at an earlier hearing, Crane was sentenced to 38 months in jail and ordered to pay a victim surcharge fee.
