MP addresses disorder in Halesowen town centre
MP for Halesowen, Alex Ballinger, has confirmed he is 'doing everything he can' following a high street brawl in the Black Country town on July 18. The disorder, which involved a large group of teenagers, resulted in the arrest of two individuals aged 15 and 16 on suspicion of violent disorder.
The incident, described as 'distressing' by the Labour MP, is believed to have stemmed from a football match between Halesowen Town and Kidderminster. Ballinger stated that a group of youths 'travelled down' from Kidderminster with the apparent intention of causing disruption.

Footage and images from the scene show a chaotic scene in Halesowen town centre. West Midlands Police were called to the area after reports of a large group fighting. Among the rumours circulating online, there were unfounded claims of a stabbing. Ballinger clarified in a video posted on social media that one youth was injured by broken glass, not a stabbing.
The two teenagers arrested remain in police custody as investigations continue. Police have urged anyone with CCTV or mobile phone footage to contact them on 101 quoting incident number 2060 of 18 July, or to provide information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Police response and increased patrols
In response to the disorder, Ballinger confirmed that police have committed to increasing visibility in the town centre as part of the Safer Towns initiative. This includes having police officers and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) present in Halesowen every day. Additionally, the police are applying for a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO), which would grant them greater powers to impose financial penalties and make arrests for antisocial behaviour.
Ballinger said: 'I've been calling for a more robust approach in the town centre, as I said in my previous post. I'm pleased to see that the police have responded with some further steps.' He emphasised his commitment to keeping Halesowen free from antisocial behaviour and ensuring public safety.

Ballinger acknowledged this in his Instagram video, saying: 'I know the incident has been very distressing for people everywhere. I want to reassure you I'm doing everything I can to keep Halesowen free of antisocial behaviour and keep you all safe.'
