A man previously charged over a violent train attack in Cambridgeshire now faces additional serious charges relating to incidents that allegedly occurred the day before the railway incident.
New Serious Charges Filed
Anthony Williams, 32, of Langford Road, Peterborough was due to appear at Peterborough Magistrates' Court on November 19 following new charges brought by British Transport Police. The fresh allegations relate to events that supposedly took place on Friday, October 31 - just one day before the train attack that prompted a major police investigation.
Detailed List of Additional Charges
The new charges against Williams include some extremely serious allegations:
- Attempted murder of a 14-year-old boy at Henry Penn Walk, Peterborough
- Attempted grievous bodily harm of a 28-year-old man at Viersen Platz, Peterborough
- Attempted murder of a 22-year-old man near Pleasure Fair Meadow Road, Peterborough
- Affray and possession of a bladed article at Ritzy Barbers in Peterborough
- Theft of knives from Asda supermarket in Stevenage
- Common assault of a 31-year-old man on-board a train between Hitchin and Biggleswade on November 1
Previous Charges and Ongoing Investigation
Earlier this month, Williams was already facing ten counts of attempted murder, one count of actual bodily harm and one count of possession of a bladed article in connection with the train attack on November 1. The train involved was bound for London when it was diverted to Huntingdon Station.
BTP deputy chief constable Stuart Cundy stated: "These are a significant set of new charges. Our investigation into the awful incident at Huntingdon has also focused on other offences previously reported to police or identified by our investigation."
He added that police had worked closely with Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Police alongside the Crown Prosecution Service to bring these charges. Cundy also stressed the importance of not publishing anything that might jeopardise ongoing criminal proceedings or the integrity of the investigation.
