The decision comes after the arrest of four suspects connected to a foiled bomb plot. First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli presented drone surveillance footage at a press conference earlier in December, showing the individuals attempting to assemble an explosive device in a desert area outside the city.
All four suspects are reported to be from the Los Angeles region. While the threat was deemed credible, local officials have, so far, opted to maintain planned festivities with enhanced security measures in place.

In Sydney, Australia, the renowned fireworks display at Bondi Beach has been cancelled. This follows a deadly attack on the Jewish community at Bondi Beach earlier in December, which resulted in 15 fatalities and 40 injuries. Waverley Council stated the cancellation of events, including the 'elrow XXL Bondi' party, was made with "compassion and care for Sydney's Jewish community." New South Wales Premier Chris Minns highlighted ongoing antisemitic threats as a key concern.
In Paris, France, a major music concert scheduled for the Champs-Élysées has been called off on police advice. Authorities feared the tens of thousands of expected revellers could lead to dangerous crowd crushes. The city's central fireworks display will, however, proceed as planned.
Meanwhile, Tokyo, Japan, has cancelled its iconic countdown event outside Shibuya Station. Mayor Ken Hasebe cited acute fears of stampedes within the anticipated massive crowds, with concerns over public drinking also influencing the decision.
