Oldbury Pub's Future Hangs in Balance After Violent Incident

A crucial hearing has been scheduled to determine the future of an Oldbury pub following a serious double stabbing incident earlier this month. Sandwell Council's licensing committee will convene on March 27 to review the operating license for The Bulls Head Bar & Grill located on Birchfield Lane in Oldbury.

Police Express Significant Concerns

West Midlands Police formally requested the license review, stating they hold "significant concerns" about the establishment after responding to a violent disorder on March 1. During the early morning hours, two men were stabbed at the premises, prompting emergency services to intervene.

The pub's license was suspended on March 5 and will remain inactive until the conclusion of next week's hearing. The council's licensing committee possesses full authority to either suspend or permanently revoke the pub's operating license based on their findings.

Details of the March 1 Incident

Five individuals were arrested in connection with the violent episode that unfolded in the early hours of March 1. The two victims, men in their 20s and 30s, sustained injuries that required hospital treatment but were not considered life-threatening.

Law enforcement made multiple arrests including:

  • A 22-year-old man arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and possession of Class B drugs
  • A 38-year-old man arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and possession of Class A drugs
  • Two women aged 34 and 44 arrested on suspicion of violent disorder
  • A 34-year-old man arrested on suspicion of violent disorder

Pub Management and Operating Hours

Perparim Emini has served as the license holder since July 2020, while Anastasija Selugina has been the designated premises supervisor since April 2021. The establishment currently holds permission to operate until 12:30 AM on weekdays and until 2:30 AM on Fridays and Saturdays.

Community Support for the Establishment

Several messages of support were submitted to the council following the police request for license review. Regular patrons expressed their desire to see the pub remain open despite the violent incident.

One supporter stated: "I have every faith that they can restore the pub and their own reputation, just as they did when taking over this premises in the beginning around five years ago. The recent reports and ongoings have been caused by members of the public who are not regulars of this pub."

Another supporter added: "I understand that there has been occasional incidents on weekends but this should not be a representation of the pub as a whole. I hope that this pub does not get closed permanently and that this matter is resolved."

Police Report Details

The formal review application submitted by West Midlands Police to Sandwell Council detailed: "On 1st March 2026, West Midlands Police were contacted by West Midlands Ambulance Service about a report of a person stabbed in the chest at the named premises. A further report was received of a second person stabbing victim nearby."

Officers confirmed both injured individuals had been at the public house previously. The incident resulted in two section 18 wounding with intent crimes under the Offences against the Person Act 1861.

The upcoming hearing will ultimately decide whether The Bulls Head can continue operations or face permanent closure following the violent disturbance that has raised serious safety concerns among local authorities.
