Paedophile's 'Dangerous Infatuation' Leads to Stalking and Sabotage of Family's House Sale
Shane York, a 32-year-old paedophile from the Midlands, developed what police described as a 'dangerous infatuation' with a young schoolboy, leading to a months-long stalking campaign that included attempts to sabotage the child's family house sale. York's disturbing actions were uncovered after the family queried strange communications with their estate agent, revealing his manipulative plot to remain close to the victim.
Stalking Campaign and House Sale Interference
York's obsession began when he started following the boy, whom he did not know, from school. Nottinghamshire Police reported this became a 'regular occurrence', with York taking photos and keeping a log of sightings on his phone. The situation escalated dramatically when York discovered the family planned to move house. In a bid to stay near the child, he attempted to book viewings through estate agents and wrote two letters pretending to be the family, instructing them to cancel the sale, take the property off the market, and cease contact.
The police stated, 'The strange behaviour was ultimately discovered when the real family queried what was going on and were shown the letters they’d supposedly sent.' York was identified as the perpetrator, and it was later revealed he had also tried, unsuccessfully, to secure a job at the boy's school, highlighting the depth of his fixation.
Investigation Uncovers Further Depravity
York was arrested in July 2025, and a subsequent investigation exposed the full extent of his crimes. Police noted that 'York’s stalking offences only scratched the surface of the paedophile’s depravity.' Searches of his home in Bulwell revealed:
- Indecent images of children taken by York himself, though not of the stalking victim.
- Over 1,700 indecent images and videos of children on his devices.
- Prohibited pictures of children and extreme pornographic images involving animals.
Detectives also established that York had sexually abused a young child on two separate occasions in 2023 and 2024, adding to the severity of his offences.
Court Sentencing and Police Response
At Nottingham Crown Court on Monday, March 2, York pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including:
- Two counts of sexual assault on a child.
- One count of stalking involving serious alarm or distress between February and July 2025.
- Two counts of taking indecent photographs of children.
He received an extended sentence of nine years, comprising six years in custody followed by three years on licence. Additionally, York was made subject to a restraining order and a sexual harm prevention order to protect future potential victims.
Detective Constable Stacey Lamb of Nottinghamshire Police commented, 'York developed a dangerous infatuation with a child and spent several months stalking him in a range of deeply concerning ways. His stalking showed persistence and planning, while his behaviour was highly manipulative.' She emphasised the seriousness of his crimes and praised the young victim's bravery in coming forward, which helped halt York's offending before it could escalate further.
This case underscores the critical importance of vigilance and reporting in safeguarding children from predatory behaviour, with authorities urging communities to remain alert to such threats.
