Plain clothes police officers are patrolling crime hotspots in Chelmsley Wood as part of a major crackdown on knife crime. The officers joined uniformed colleagues on patrol to identify potential troublemakers and conducted stop-and-searches in the area.
Weapons Sweep at Meriden Park
The Chelmsley Wood neighbourhood team, along with members of Street Watch, recovered two knives during a weapons sweep of Meriden Park. Local residents will also see knife arches installed at popular locations across the borough as part of ongoing efforts to deter knife crime.
School and College Visits
The force has visited schools and colleges to educate young people about the dangers of knife crime and the serious consequences of carrying weapons. Sergeant Jahan from the Chelmsley Wood Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "We know all too well the devastating consequences of knife crime, and we're working incredibly hard all year round to drive down these offences and take these weapons off our streets. These two knives off the streets are potentially lives saved."
Test Purchases and Enforcement
In addition to patrols and sweeps, test purchases are being carried out at selected shops, alongside stop-and-searches and other enforcement activities to ensure compliance with knife sale laws.
