Police appeal after moped and car altercation

Police have launched an urgent appeal for information after an altercation between a moped rider and a car in Birmingham. The incident occurred on Garretts Green Lane, near the roundabout connecting it to Ollerton Road, at approximately 7.30pm on Monday, October 12.

According to police, the rider was travelling on Garretts Green Lane when the altercation took place. The silver estate-type car involved was then driven away back up Garretts Green Lane and down Sheldon Heath Road. The moped rider was accompanied by a pillion passenger, who left the area on the bike via Barrows Lane after the incident.

Urgent enquiries underway

CCTV trawls are currently underway as officers carry out 'urgent enquiries' to trace the individuals involved. Police have urged anyone with information to come forward. Det Insp Michael Wright, from the Major Crime Unit, stressed the importance of identifying the rider, passenger and occupants of the car as quickly as possible.

“It’s really important that we identify the rider, passenger and occupants of the car as quickly as possible so that we can establish the full circumstances of what happened,” said Det Insp Wright. “I’d appeal for anyone who was driving in the area at the time, and who saw the car in the image, or remembers seeing a motorbike with two people on board, to get in touch.”

Dashcam and mobile phone footage sought

Det Insp Wright also expressed particular interest in any dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area. “I’m particularly keen to see any dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area as well,” he added.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police via 101 or Live Chat on the force website, quoting log 5112 of 12 October. Footage can also be sent to police through the Public Portal. The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
