Police Demand Licence Review for Oldbury Pub After Double Stabbing Incident
West Midlands Police have formally called upon Sandwell Council to conduct a comprehensive review of the operating licence for The Bulls Head Bar & Grill in Oldbury. This urgent request follows a violent incident earlier this month, where two men were stabbed at the Birchfield Lane establishment.
Serious Crime and Disorder Prompt Police Action
A senior police officer has highlighted that serious crime and serious disorder have occurred at the pub, necessitating immediate regulatory scrutiny. The council's licensing committee now holds the authority to potentially suspend or revoke the pub's licence based on the findings of this review.
The incident unfolded in the early hours of March 1, 2026, when emergency services were alerted to reports of a stabbing. West Midlands Ambulance Service contacted police about an individual stabbed in the chest at The Bulls Head. Subsequently, a second stabbing victim was reported nearby, with officers confirming this person had also been at the pub prior to the attack.
Arrests and Injuries Following the Violent Altercation
Five individuals were arrested in connection with the disturbance. The victims, two men in their 20s and 30s, sustained injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening and were transported to hospital for treatment.
Police have detailed the arrests as follows:
- A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and possession of Class B drugs.
- A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and possession of Class A drugs.
- Two women, aged 34 and 44, were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.
- A 34-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.
Formal Review Application Cites Legal Violations
In the official application submitted to Sandwell Council, West Midlands Police stated: "On 1st March 2026, West Midlands Police were contacted by West Midlands Ambulance Service about a report of a person stabbed in the chest at The Bulls Head. A further report was received of a second person stabbing victim nearby."
The document further explains that officers have recorded two offences under section 18 of the Offences against the Person Act 1861, pertaining to wounding with intent. This legal framework underscores the gravity of the incident and supports the police's call for a licence review to address ongoing public safety concerns.
