Detectives from West Mercia Police have significantly escalated their efforts to locate a rapist who attacked a woman in her twenties in a wooded area near Castle Green Cemetery in Ironbridge. The assault occurred on the morning of Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24, between 9.45am and 11.25am, with authorities only being notified of the incident recently.

In response to the attack, police have stepped up patrols in the Telford borough area, particularly around Beech Road, where the incident took place. Officers are conducting extensive door-to-door enquiries and foot patrols to gather information from the local community. Detective Inspector Danielle Logan emphasised the ongoing appeal for public assistance, stating that officers will be actively engaging with residents to uncover any leads.
Description of Suspect and Appeal for Information
The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, with short dark hair. He was reportedly wearing dark jeans and a black coat at the time of the attack. Police are urging anyone who was in the area on Christmas Eve morning, particularly around Beech Road, Woodside Avenue, or Newcomen Way, to come forward with any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem.
Detective Inspector Logan highlighted the importance of community cooperation, saying: "We are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in those areas or who has relevant CCTV or dashcam footage. Officers are working hard to identify the suspect, and we ask anyone with information to contact police immediately."
