Police Launch Investigation Into Antisemitic Arson Attack on Jewish Ambulances
Police are actively hunting three suspects following a disturbing antisemitic arson attack in London, where four ambulances belonging to the Jewish Community Ambulance service were deliberately set on fire. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, March 23, on Highfield Road in Golders Green, Northwest London, at approximately 1.40am.
Details of the Attack and Emergency Response
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that four Hatzalah ambulances were engulfed in flames, with the fire brought under control just after 3am. Nearby residences were evacuated as a precautionary measure due to the severity of the blaze, and road closures remain in effect to facilitate the ongoing investigation. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, and all fires have been extinguished by emergency crews.
Explosions were reportedly heard in the vicinity during the incident. The London Fire Brigade later confirmed that multiple cylinders on the vehicles exploded, causing windows to shatter in a nearby block of flats, adding to the chaos and concern in the community.
Police Investigation and Community Impact
Based on CCTV footage, authorities are currently seeking three suspects in connection with the attack. Superintendent Sarah Jackson, who oversees policing in the local area, addressed the community's concerns, stating, "We know this incident will cause a great deal of community concern and officers remain on scene to carry out urgent enquiries. We are in the process of examining CCTV and are aware of online footage. We believe we are looking for three suspects at this early stage."
She emphasized that no arrests have been made yet and urged anyone with information to come forward.
