Police Praise 'Great Work' as Midlands Pub Transforms After Violence
Police have issued a positive update on a Midlands pub that was previously plagued by violence, highlighting a dramatic turnaround in safety and community relations. The Bell Inn in Coleshill, which was ordered to close temporarily last September following a stabbing incident outside the premises, has now achieved a 100 percent reduction in crime reports, according to authorities.
Background of Incidents and Closure
Last year, The Bell Inn faced significant challenges with antisocial behaviour and serious violence. In September 2025, a man was stabbed outside the pub, leading to a temporary closure order imposed by police. This incident followed an earlier event in April 2025, where a man was struck by a driver in the car park, with reports suggesting one offender brandished a machete during the attack.
Initially, police attempts to engage with the licensee to implement changes were unsuccessful, prompting the North Warwickshire Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) to adopt a more proactive approach.
Police Intervention and Strategy Shift
The North Warwickshire SNT changed tactics by incorporating a range of measures to address the issues at the pub. Their strategy included:
- Proactive operations and targeted patrols to deter criminal activity.
- Regular licensing checks to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Community meetings to gather feedback and involve residents in the process.
This coordinated effort led to a licensing review and the eventual temporary closure of the premises. During this period, the pub's owners decided to overhaul their operating model and introduce a new licensee, which police credit as a key factor in the transformation.
Results and Community Impact
According to police data, the intervention has been highly successful. Between September 17, 2025, and January 29, 2026, there was a 100 percent reduction in crime reports from The Bell Inn. Officers noted that the volume of antisocial behaviour, disorder, and serious violence reports had been a major concern in the autumn of last year, but the changes have significantly improved the situation.
On social media, police posted: "Great work all round for everyone involved in reducing serious violence and antisocial behaviour and improving things for the local community." This statement underscores the collaborative effort between law enforcement, the pub owners, and the community to enhance safety and wellbeing in the area.
The update serves as a testament to how strategic police work and community engagement can lead to positive outcomes, even in venues with a history of violence. Residents and authorities alike are hopeful that this progress will be sustained, making The Bell Inn a safer and more welcoming place for all.
