A new bench has been installed in the communal garden at South Pembrokeshire Hospital, providing a dedicated space for rest, reflection, and fresh air. The bench was funded by Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, and is intended to benefit patients, staff, and visiting families.
The addition aims to offer a restful sanctuary away from the busy hospital environment. It gives healthcare workers a place to take a breather during demanding shifts, and offers loved ones a comforting space to pause together. The project highlights how charitable donations can enrich everyday care.
A welcoming boost for the hospital grounds
Siân Nichols, business service officer for Pembrokeshire, said: “Patients benefit from having a comfortable place to sit down and rest whilst enjoying the fresh air and nature.” She added that patients can leave the ward with their visitors and spend time connecting in an open space.
“Similarly, staff can sit together outside or take a moment for themselves for some reflection or mindfulness which will contribute to staff morale and wellbeing,” Nichols said.
Charity funding makes a real difference
Nicola Llewelyn, head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, said: “This is a great example of how your local NHS charity funds projects and items that make a real difference, such as welcoming environments for patients, visitors, and staff.”
Llewelyn added: “The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
