Midlands Quad Biker Sentenced to Prison for Reckless Driving on Stolen Vehicle

Devon Bentley, a 22-year-old man with no fixed address, has been jailed for seven months following a dangerous incident involving a stolen quad bike in Hanley. The sentencing took place at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Thursday, February 26, after Bentley pleaded guilty to serious driving offences.

Dangerous Stunts Performed in Early Hours

In the early hours of Saturday, February 21, Bentley was observed riding a red Suzuki King quad bike erratically through the streets of Hanley. Witnesses reported that he performed wheelies and donuts, executing these stunts in a manner that narrowly missed pedestrians. Adding to the recklessness, Bentley was not wearing a helmet and had a passenger on the back of the quad bike during the incident.

Stolen Vehicle and Police Investigation

The quad bike involved in this dangerous episode had been reported stolen from an address in Caverswall at approximately 3:40 a.m. on Friday, February 20. Staffordshire Police confirmed that the vehicle remains missing, with ongoing enquiries actively seeking to locate it. Bentley was arrested on Wednesday, February 25, in connection with the theft and the subsequent dangerous driving.

Legal Consequences and Driving Ban

Bentley admitted to two charges in court: driving a motor vehicle taken without the owner's consent and driving a motor vehicle dangerously. In addition to the seven-month jail term, he received a one-year driving disqualification and was ordered to undergo an extended re-test before being permitted to drive again. This case highlights the severe legal repercussions for such irresponsible behavior on public roads.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by reckless driving, particularly when involving stolen vehicles. Authorities continue to urge the public to report any suspicious activities to help prevent similar occurrences in the future.
