A suspected car thief has been arrested in Birmingham after a sawn-off shotgun was found hidden in a loft. West Midlands Police confirmed that officers from the road crime team spotted a vehicle on cloned plates on Honiley Road in Sheldon on Wednesday, July 8.

Checks revealed the car had been reported stolen from Worcester in May. A 41-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of vehicle theft.

Firearm discovered during property search

During further searches at a nearby property, officers discovered and seized a sawn-off shotgun from a loft. The suspect was subsequently arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We have recovered a sawn-off shotgun and arrested a man after a suspected stolen car was found in Birmingham. Officers from our road crime team conducting a mobile patrol spotted a vehicle on cloned plates parked on Honiley Road, on Wednesday afternoon, July 8. Checks showed it had been reported stolen from Worcester in May. A man was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft. During further searches at a nearby property, a sawn-off shotgun was discovered in a loft and seized. The 41-year-old was further arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm. Investigations are ongoing and the man has been bailed with conditions as those enquiries continue."
