A second man has been charged by police in connection with a shooting in Smethwick that left a victim with serious leg injuries.
Court Appearance Following St Pauls Road Incident
Asad Khan, aged 22, was remanded to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court on Thursday, December 18. His court date follows a shooting that occurred on St Pauls Road on Sunday, November 23. West Midlands Police confirmed a man was seriously injured after being shot in the leg during the incident.
Charges Laid Against Two Men
Khan faces multiple charges, including possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and taking a motor vehicle without consent. Following searches of an associated address, he was also charged with possession of class A drugs.
He is now the second individual to be charged in relation to the violent event. Earlier this month, a 19-year-old man was charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. That teenager also faces additional charges of wounding, driving offences, and possession of class A drugs with intent to supply.
Police Focus on Serious Organised Crime
In a statement regarding the ongoing investigation, a force spokesperson outlined their wider strategy. "We are specifically working to identify people involved in serious organised crime, while preventing people from falling victim to traumatic or harmful crimes," they said.
This work forms part of 'Operation Target', a police initiative active across the West Midlands region which aims to make communities safer places to live and work.
The legal proceedings for both accused men are now underway as the investigation into the November shooting continues.
