Shirtless Attacker Receives Four-Year Sentence for Vicious Pub Exit Assault
A bare-chested thug has been imprisoned for four years after battering a couple in an unprovoked attack moments after leaving a pub in Newark, Nottinghamshire. Silas Briggs-Price, aged 22, flew into a drunken rage and launched at the man and woman in a violent incident that left the male victim with serious injuries.
Details of the Aggressive Confrontation
The assault occurred at closing time on June 27 last year on Barnby Gate in Newark. Briggs-Price approached the couple and began leaping up and down aggressively in front of them as they attempted to walk away. The thug pursued them while shouting "Do you know who I am?" before striking the man in the face, causing him to fall unconscious to the ground.
The attack escalated further when Briggs-Price kicked the unconscious man in the head with such force that it fractured several bones in his face. He then set upon the woman before stripping off his shirt and marching away from the scene.
Police Apprehension and Court Proceedings
Bodycam footage captured police apprehending the half-naked Briggs-Price walking through the streets just minutes after the violent assault. Initially, Briggs-Price denied attacking the couple but subsequently admitted to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and assault.
On Monday, February 23, Briggs-Price of Balderton, Nottinghamshire, was sentenced to four years imprisonment at Nottingham Crown Court for his actions.
Police Condemnation of the Attack
Detective Constable Robert McGhee of Nottinghamshire Police stated: "Briggs-Price's behaviour that morning was dangerous, senseless and disgraceful in equal measure. Having just left the pub, he took it upon himself to aggressively pursue a couple down the street following a confrontation. Despite them trying to leave, he simply wouldn't let it go."
"After knocking the man unconscious, the actions that followed were incredibly cowardly, as he kicked his now-defenceless victim in the head before assaulting the woman too. Briggs-Price's actions left a man with serious injuries, so we're pleased to see he's now received a custodial sentence befitting of his offending."
The case highlights ongoing concerns about violent behavior in community settings and the importance of police intervention in such incidents.
