Man Sentenced for Series of Thefts
A 43-year-old man from Crewe has been sent to prison for two months following a shoplifting spree in a Staffordshire town.
Graeme David McLardy admitted to four separate counts of theft from shops, all committed on the same day.
The Day of the Crimes
The offences took place in Newcastle-under-Lyme on Saturday, November 8. McLardy targeted four different businesses, making off with items totalling £90 in value.
His crime spree was cut short later that same day when he was stopped by police on Castle Walk. Officers conducted a search and successfully recovered all of the stolen goods.
Court Sentencing and Police Response
McLardy appeared at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Monday, November 10, where he pleaded guilty and received his two-month jail sentence.
Commenting on the case, PC Heather Bolam stated: “I hope this sentencing shows that we are committed to tackling theft and taking action against those responsible.”
She also highlighted the impact of proactive policing measures, adding: “Since we increased hotspot patrols in the town centre, we have been able to reduce shoplifting incidents and improve safety in areas with high footfall.”
A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police reiterated the force's stance, confirming the details of the sentencing and encouraging residents to continue reporting any incidents to them.
