The grieving sister of a man who died following a suspected attack in a Birmingham supermarket car park has paid a moving tribute to her "mischievous" brother, describing him as her "protector" and "forever friend."
Family's Devastation Over Tragic Loss
Daniel Lewis, known affectionately as Danny, was discovered with serious injuries and in cardiac arrest in a store car park off Soho Road in Handsworth shortly after midday on Monday, February 2. The 40-year-old was rushed to hospital but tragically passed away two days later on Wednesday, February 4.
Emotional Tribute from a Heartbroken Sister
In a heartfelt statement, Danny's sister Natasha expressed the family's profound grief and struggle to comprehend the sudden loss. "Danny was well-liked by anyone who met him," she said. "He was known for being mischievous with a loveable cheekiness. He had the biggest heart and he was the best big brother I could have asked for. He was my protector, my forever friend."
Natasha continued, emphasising his dedication to family: "He was an amazing son and uncle and adored his family, he would do anything for us. We are all struggling to come to terms with what has happened, it's so cruel. I feel like he has been robbed from us."
Ongoing Police Investigation
West Midlands Police confirmed officers were called to the incident shortly after 12.45pm. Authorities have indicated that Danny is believed to have been involved in some form of disorder in the Soho Road and Holyhead Road area before he was found. The force stated that officers are supporting the family during this devastating time.
Arrests and Appeals for Information
As part of the investigation:
- A 34-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of attempted murder and has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
- A second 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and has been released under investigation.
