Skate Park Rapist Sentenced to Ten Years for Grooming and Attacks

Peter Whetstone, a 29-year-old man from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, has been jailed for ten years after being convicted of grooming and sexually assaulting two teenage girls he met at a skate park in the Midlands.

Predatory Behaviour and Manipulation

Whetstone, who was 23 at the time of the offences in 2020, befriended the victims, who were described by police as having vulnerabilities that made them targets. He was part of an older group at the skate park and used his status as a talented skater to impress the girls, according to victim statements.

The sex offender repeatedly messaged the teenagers, persuading them to send intimate pictures and videos. He later raped one of the girls at his home. Nottinghamshire Police highlighted that Whetstone's actions were predatory and manipulative, with evidence showing he deliberately targeted the victims due to their vulnerabilities.

Legal Proceedings and Convictions

Whetstone admitted to multiple charges, including:

  • Inciting sexual activity
  • Sexual communications with a child
  • Two counts of meeting a child following grooming
  • Four counts of sexual activity with a child

He was also convicted of two counts of sexual assault following a trial in September 2025. On Tuesday, March 10, at Nottingham Crown Court, he received a ten-year prison sentence.

Impact on Victims and Police Response

In their statements, the victims expressed that Whetstone's abuse continued to impact their lives, feeling their teenage years were stolen. Detective Constable Kerry Stringfellow of Nottinghamshire Police commended the bravery of the victims throughout the legal process, despite Whetstone's repeated denials.

Stringfellow stated, "He knew perfectly well that what he was doing was illegal and would have a profound impact on his victims and their families." She also issued a warning to other adults considering similar offences against children, emphasizing that they will be caught and imprisoned.

Additional Legal Measures

Alongside his prison sentence, Whetstone was made subject to a sexual harm prevention order and will remain on the sex offenders register for life. This case underscores the ongoing efforts by authorities to combat sexual offences and protect vulnerable individuals in the community.
