In a major drug bust, a man from Smethwick has been arrested after authorities uncovered almost a ton of cocaine concealed within pallets of bananas at Southampton Docks. The National Crime Agency (NCA) reported that the massive seizure, weighing 943 kilograms, has an estimated street value of approximately £75 million.

The illicit drugs were found hidden in a shipping container that had traveled from Nicaragua to the United Kingdom, passing through Panama along the way. Border Force officers, working in collaboration with the NCA, opened the container and discovered the class A substances among the banana shipments.
Charges and Court Appearances
Two men have been charged with importing class A drugs in connection with this case. Daniel Dumitru, aged 37 and residing on Reginald Road in Smethwick, along with Andrew Smyth, a 46-year-old from West Park Gardens in Prenton, Merseyside, are scheduled to appear at Southampton Magistrates' Court.
