A teenage would-be bike thief from Solihull has been sentenced to six years in prison after he threatened to stab two boys and punched one of them, causing a broken nose, during an attempted robbery in Walsall.
Dylan Beard, 18, from Campville Grove in Solihull, approached the two teenagers near Broad Lane in Bloxwich on 23 May. The pair were standing close to the railway station when Beard demanded their bicycles.
Threats and Assault
According to West Midlands Police, Beard threatened to stab the teens if they did not hand over their bikes. Despite the threats, the victims managed to keep hold of their property. However, Beard punched one of the boys in the face, leaving him with a broken nose.
The teenagers were left shaken but were able to flee the scene and report the incident to the police. Officers from the robbery team in Walsall CID immediately launched an investigation.
Investigation and Arrest
Detectives carried out extensive enquiries to identify the suspect. Using forensic evidence and witness statements, they were able to trace Beard to his home address in Solihull. He was arrested just a few days after the incident.
