A primary school in Solihull was forced into emergency lockdown for nearly an hour after alarming reports emerged of a man chanting about demons and children near the school grounds.
Emergency Response Triggered
The incident unfolded at Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Primary School on Stratford Road in Shirley at approximately 3pm on Tuesday, November 11. The school, which also operates a nursery, immediately activated its safety protocols upon receiving reports of a suspicious individual.
According to school authorities and witness accounts, the man was spotted in the car park of the adjacent Our Lady of the Wayside Church. He attempted to access the property through several different entry points but was successfully confronted by staff members and parents who were present on the grounds.
School's Swift Security Measures
The school maintained its lockdown for approximately 45 minutes as a precautionary measure. During this period, children remained secured in their classrooms while parents were temporarily prevented from entering the premises to collect their children.
West Midlands Police officers rushed to the scene following emergency calls about the suspicious man. After conducting thorough searches of the surrounding area, police confirmed the individual had left the location before their arrival.
In a communication to parents, school officials emphasised that the intruder never actually gained access to school grounds and that no children were ever at risk during the incident.
Community Reaction and Ongoing Investigation
One concerned parent praised the school's handling of the situation, stating: "The school was excellent in its safety protocols - and it was managed expertly. Sadly if other schools are not as prepared there could have been a different outcome."
Police have confirmed that no arrests have been made in connection with the incident. The neighbourhood policing team has increased patrols in the area to reassure the local community.
Our Lady and All Saint's MAC, which oversees the school, has announced it will be reviewing all security measures to ensure continued safety for pupils and staff. The organisation reiterated that the wellbeing of children remains their paramount concern.
Authorities are appealing to anyone with information to contact West Midlands Police via their website live chat or by calling 101, quoting log reference 3202 of November 11.
