A brave Birmingham shopkeeper confronted three masked robbers brandishing machetes in his Sparkbrook phone repair shop, chasing them out with a hockey stick. The incident occurred at Active Phones on Walford Road around 4pm on July 17.
Shopkeeper's swift action
Footage shows Abdul, the shop owner, grabbing a hockey stick immediately after the hooded men entered his store in broad daylight. He told BirminghamLive he was "scared" but knew he had to act quickly. "I said to them, 'don't do it, you don't want to do that here'," Abdul recounted. "I pulled out a hockey stick and they started hitting it with machetes as I defended myself."
Police investigation underway
West Midlands Police confirmed an investigation has been launched. A force spokesperson said: "An investigation has been launched following an armed robbery at a shop in Birmingham. We were called to Walford Road yesterday, July 17, shortly before 4pm following an armed robbery at a store. Thankfully, no one was injured and our enquiries remain ongoing."
