Stop-and-Searches Uncover Deadly Weapons, Teen Charged

A 17-year-old boy is due to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on July 29 after a knife was recovered during a stop-and-search in Willenhall. The teenager, from Birmingham, was stopped on Summer Road on Monday afternoon, July 13. In a separate incident, an 18-year-old man was arrested and later bailed after officers recovered a knife, cash, and Class A drugs from an e-scooter rider in West Bromwich.

Details of the Willenhall Stop-and-Search

According to West Midlands Police, the 17-year-old was charged with possession of a knife following the search on Summer Road. The force stated that the teenager is scheduled to appear in court later this month.

E-Scooter Stop in West Bromwich

Later that evening, while on patrol, officers spotted a teenager riding an e-scooter in West Bromwich. After catching up with him, they conducted a search and recovered Class A drugs, a knife, and cash. An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply and possession of an offensive weapon. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "Officers have recovered knives and drugs after stopping two teenagers in Willenhall and West Bromwich. A 17-year-old boy from Birmingham has been charged with possession of a knife. He is due to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on 29 July. This comes after officers recovered a knife following a stop and search on Summer Road, Willenhall on Monday afternoon (13 Jul). Later on in the evening, whilst on patrol, officers spotted a teenager making off on an e-scooter. We managed to catch up with him and following searches we recovered class A drugs, a knife and cash. An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of class A drugs with intent to supply and possession of an offensive weapon. He has been bailed pending further enquiries. The work forms part of our Project Guardian taskforce which sees officers regularly patrolling hotspots for knife and youth violence and engaging with young people."

Project Guardian is a West Midlands Police initiative aimed at tackling knife crime and youth violence through targeted patrols and engagement in known hotspots.
